This semester, we are offering Embedded Tutoring & Supplemental Instruction (ETSI) for three of our science courses. While found within a Tiger Tutors session, Supplemental Instruction provides tutees with a familiar face from within your course via the Embedded Tutor.

Interested in becoming an Embedded Tutor for the ETSI Program?

The Learning Center’s Supplemental Instruction program uses Embedded Tutors within specific courses to act as a teaching assistant in the classroom and as a tutor with a familiar face and knowledge of exactly what is going on within the course. This type of Tutor is hired on a semester- to-semester basis. 

To qualify, you must:

  • Have a minimum grade of A- in course(s) in which you will be embedded
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have upper-class standing (sophomore or above), preferably
  • Be available to attend a mandatory training on the Saturday before the second week/after the first week of classes
  • Be able to commit to working the entire semester
  • Be able to communicate effectively, maintain cooperative peer relationships, and be teamwork-oriented, dependable, attentive to detail, friendly, mature and approachable
  • Possess the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Have original, unexpired documents to complete New Employee Registration before hire (such as a driver’s license or non-driver’s license and Social Security card, or other accepted documents). Copies are not allowed.  Please do not apply until you have these documents
  • For tutors embedded in BIO_SC 3700, you must have taken the course with Dr. Joseph Santin

 Hiring for Fall Timeline:

  • February-March: Outreach to faculty
  • April: Embedded Tutor application opens
  • May-July: Student interviews and hiring occurs

 Hiring for Spring Timeline:

  • September-October: Outreach to faculty
  • November: Embedded Tutor application opens
  • December-January: Student interviews and hiring occurs
